  1. I chose the library field because I liked spending time in libraries, the detective work/hunting aspect of research and document delivery, helping people, and organizing things.

Plus I already wear glasses and like cats, so it seemed to be a natural fit. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I chose the library world because I love books, I love information, and especially because I love doing research. I have since found out that library people are very cool too ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I grew up in libraries (my Mom was a volunteer) and had always spent a lot of time in them when I was growing up so when my first career choice flopped (turns out I don’t have the “drive” to be a great actress!) and nothing else seemed to thrill me my Mom suggested I look at the Lib Tech studies at UFV (Fraser Valley College then). I loved it. I love the books, the organization, the hunt for answers, helping people…all of it!
I didn’t think of a career in libraries at first but it turned out to be a great fit for me.

  4. I love the work. After doing my high school practicum at my local library I was hooked. And after finishing my degree I applied to both libraries and the Langara LibTech Program so I could get started.

Everything about the libraries is amazing. From freedom of information to circulation, collection development to accessibility. I am a “true believer” in what we do and what we stand for. Connecting people with information, resources, and providing a place that you can use for using the resources we provide.

We provide a service that no one else does, and we do it because we believe in helping connect people with information. What is not to love?

  5. after finding an excellent pair of 1950s cat-eye glasses at the dump, and my friends subsequently telling me i looked “like a librarian” throughout the following weeks, i started to put the pieces together: i liked libraries, they were free and comfortable and i could read david sedaris books until i fell off the couch in a fit of giggles… and hey, somebody had to do that job so why not me?!

as everyone here knows, it’s an awesome job. i love what i do, and work with people who are are likewise excited. as i write this i’m en route to the pnla/wla conference in victoria, totally excited to geek out over literacy and access to information.

(but seriously, we should hush up before everyone wants to get in on the awesomeness of our jobs…)

  6. I enjoy working in the library field because I love to read, learn and help others find information they need. To have so many interesting resouces at hand is pure heaven!
