What’s going on LTAIGers?

I hope everyone plans to enjoy Freedom to Read Week (February 21 – 27)

Some items that might interest you:

–    We’ve updated our “Featured” Links blogroll on the right sidebar, take a moment to check out the blogs on the list. This batch is all library technician blogs including the blog of LTAIGer Tamarack!

If you have a library themed blog, send us the link and we’ll add it to the blogroll.

– If you haven’t been to the “BC Libraries Change Lives” website, the stories included in the “Read Stories” section are very heartening. http://www.bclibrarieschangelives.ca./

–    LTAIG meetings outside of the Lower Mainland

Christina Neigel, program head of the UFV Library Technican program, has set up two Chapter Meetings for LTAIG. From her email to the BCLA List-serv:

“There will be a meeting in Victoria at the Harbour Towers Hotel (345 Quebec Street Victoria) lounge at 6pm on March 9 for any library techncians or assistants who may be interested in the recent activities of the Library Technician and Assistant’s Interest Group. LTAIG is examining how to better serve its community and provide ways that members can more effectively share their ideas, concerns, and ambitions with one another.

There will also be a meeting in the Resource Room (A263) of the Abbotsford Campus of UFV for those who live in the Fraser Valley. This meeting will be held on Wednesday April 7th at 6 pm.

It is extremely important that both current members of BCLA and those considering membership , engage in discussion around the future of this interest group and action that can be taken to strengthen representation and participation.

This is a great opportunity for those who do not feel they have a ‘voice’ in professional memberships to put their ideas on the table and forge new opportunities for both themselves and those that follow in their footsteps.

If you are interested in attending either of these meetings or have other questions, feel free to contact me.”

Also at the BCLA Conference in Penticton,

“There will be another at the BCLA conference in Penticton on Friday April 23rd at 4:30 pm to 5:30 in the Ramada hotel. Location will be in the UFV suite.

Please note, even if you are not currently a BCLA member, you are welcome to attend any of these meetings – they are not exclusive to members.

In addition, UFV’s Library Tech Program will be hosting a drop in meet-and-greet at the Ramada in the UFV suite during the conference. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Details to follow. If you are a technician or assistant and want to mingle informally with your colleagues, this is the event for you!”
